Mahalla Festival Installation

The Mahalla Festival was curated by German, Istanbul-based curators Sabine Küper-Büsch and Thomas Büsch.

A Sleeping Beauty

This site-specific installation was set up at a 17th Century Palazzo in Zabbar as part of the #mahallafestival in Malta. It was open from the 18th to the 25th of November 2018.

This work reflected on and asked the question of whether nature is precious enough? I set up this art installation in the doorway that led to the garden from the courtyard. This in between space spoke of the passage that migrants and displaced people go through, the golden threads used to cut off the passage referred to our dreams and how difficult to reach our paradise it sometimes is.

Entitled 'A Sleeping Beauty' this was a multilayered project pointing at various questions being asked in Malta nowadays, the questions of natural spacepeople movement, culture and belief were key to the development of this art installation that balanced on control

Küper-Büsch says about the work "The artist worked intensively to point out the distortion of nature by the current attempt to cash the environment and historical heritage in Malta. The minimalist style she has is juxtapointing the artificial nature of ignoring historical heritage and making use of it in a profitable way."
